I feel that I have to tell the world the truth! My eyes see, my ears hear and my heart feels. I personally want to let you know what a person with autism feels and I also want to give voice to those who suffer in silence. Humanity has to awaken to a better world.
João, you, are teaching us to live in a new way with this book but change will only come about if we are really willing. The sound of the words that you so much wish for is only a path because words are only valuable through poetry. You know what poetry really is. It’s like Love, our healing. Catarina Furtado (TV presenter)
There is a difference in the thought and expression of João Carlos. One perceives that in his silent inner world there is a grand universe swallowing us in words. It makes us think! Thank you João for your willingness, your words and sharing of strong emotions. Mário Augusto (TV presenter)
This book demands the right to dream because the diagnosis of autism seems to betray people’s dreams. Through it we access a loving and courageous view of the elaboration of the world. It is filled with political and social messages, and well defined ideas on the meaning of each gesture. We come to understand what autistic individuals perceive which is of crucial importance towards the end of prejudice and fear. This book is humanity. It makes us grow. Valter Hugo Mãe, Portuguese writer and author, in preface
